About the event
A person will spend, on average, 90,000 hours of their life at work. For many, that’s 90,000 hours of stress, but studies on workplace compassion show it doesn’t have to be that way.
Join the Center for Public Deliberation for a conversation about how CSU and businesses in the Fort Collins community can cultivate compassion in the workplace. Spreading compassion has been shown to boost productivity, foster positive relationships, and even boost employee immune systems. How many organizations, however, encourage the use of compassion?
The events will feature a keynote from Leah Weiss, the founding faculty member at Stanford’s Compassion Institute, which was founded by the Dali Lama.
Leah Weiss
Weiss is a researcher, professor, consultant and author specializing in helping employers and employees adopt practices for resilience, self-compassions, and mindfulness. She teaches Leading with Mindfulness and Compassion at Stanford Graduate School of Business. Her other courses at Stanford include Compassion and the World Religions and A Philosophical and Experimental Introduction to Buddhism.
In 2015, she was given the role of Women in Management Facilitator at Stanford’s business school. As principal teacher and trainer for Stanford’s Compassion Cultivation Training program, Weiss developed the curriculum to train more teachers to meet a growing interest in compassion as it applies to people’s work, family, community, and selves.
About the Center for Public Deliberation
The CSU Center for Public Deliberation is dedicated to enhancing local democracy through improved public communication and community problem-solving. The Center aims to improve the way our community is able to talk through complex issues and come to better decisions. Deliberation requires open spaces for citizens to come together, good and fair information to help structure the conversation, and skilled facilitators to guide the process. The CPD is dedicated to providing these three key ingredients to Northern Colorado.
About the Prevention Research Center
The Prevention Research Center was established in 2014 as a campus-wide, trans-disciplinary center based in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies committed to studying the development, implementation and evaluation of effective and sustainable intervention programs that promote individual and family health and wellness throughout the lifespan. The center programs also aim to reduce risk for problems such as substance misuse, physical and mental health issues, violence and problems of aging.
The Department of Human Development and Family Studies is part of CSU’s College of Health and Human Sciences.
The Center for Public Deliberation is part of CSU’s College of Liberal Arts.
