The Get Lit Players, an award-winning poetry troupe, will be performing on campus Monday, April 2.
The event, hosted by the Department of English, is open to faculty, students, alumni, local teachers, local high school students and the public. The group is scheduled to perform in the Grey Rock room in the Lory Student Center. Food and refreshments will follow.
Local teachers will host breakout sessions about spoken word poetry in the classroom, and then the Get Lit Players will host a workshop about integrating spoken word into the classroom.
Get Lit RisingĀ brings to life the true story of 19 teen poets (the Get Lit Players) who are inspiring thousands of teens across the country through their renowned performances of classic and spoken-word poems. The book takes readers inside the private lives of these teen poets as they try to transform the lives of inner city teens in some of the toughest life circumstances.
The Get Lit Players include teens who struggle with homelessness, autism, incarceration, body image, depression and more. They use the power of poetry to reclaim their lives and influence their friends, families, and communities.
Tickets are free, but space is limited. To purchase tickets visit the eventĀ website.
