As far as graduation gifts go, a $25,000 grant will be hard to beat.
International studies major and soon-to-be Ram grad Ryan Murray (’23) won a $25,000 grant from Bimbo Bakeries USA as part of their national College Grant Sweepstakes. The national sweepstakes awarded four students a $25,000 grand prize to go toward education expenses at each winner’s accredited, non-profit college or university. The sweepstakes is part of Bimbo USA’s efforts to highlight the importance of supporting students seeking a college education.
Murray’s luck started with his discovery of the sweepstakes in his last college semester. “I had some downtime between classes earlier in the semester and decided to Google some scholarships I could enter. That’s when I came across this one,” said Murray.
Originally from Lake Arrowhead, California, Murray knew CSU was the place for him early in his college search. “I chose CSU as soon as I saw the campus on my first visit. I knew right away that this was the type of place that I was looking for,” said Murray. Murray graduates this weekend with a B.A. in International Studies and a minor in political science.
Upon graduation, Murray hopes to enter the intelligence or international business industry. “I enjoy traveling and doing either of these would give me the chance to do just that and make an impact,” said Murray.
He explains that the sweepstakes will help him meet his career goals. “…This will help immensely with the loans I’ve taken out and I could not be more grateful,” said Murray. “As for my career, I now feel like I have the support to confidently take on the challenges of fully entering the workforce…and in my ability to pursue further education and qualifications as I need them.”
For other students looking for similar opportunities, Murray advises that the best approach is “taking action and putting yourself out there; you never know what may happen because of it.”
