Dr. Nathan Payant will make his conducting debut at Carnegie Hall in New York, as one of MidAmerica Productions featured conductors on Saturday, April 13, 2024. Carnegie Hall's mission is to “present extraordinary music and musicians on the three stages of this legendary hall, to bring the transformative power of music to the widest possible audience, to provide visionary education programs, and to foster the future of music through the cultivation of new works, artists, and audiences. Music’s Impact on Community Spaces: CSU Students’ Ethnographic Studies
A new School of Music, Theatre, and Dance course, Music of the 20th and 21st Centuries (MU 430), offers music majors the opportunity to produce original ethnographic research, which includes observing or interacting with people moving through their chosen environments. The research took place online and in the Fort Collins community – settings where the students found music and/or sound to be an aspect of the human experience – including a local record store, The R Bar, a YouTube channel, and the Harbinger coffee houses.

Dr. John Pippen, Bugs Bunny, and the American Musicological Society
What do Bugs Bunny, Leopold Stokowski, and examinations of socioeconomic class have in common? They are all part of a paper presentation by Dr. John Pippen, assistant professor of Ethnomusicology at Colorado State University. Dr. Pippen presented the paper, “Putting Class Back into Classical Music Studies,” at The 89th Annual Meeting of the American Musicological Society in Denver, Nov. 9-12, 2023, held jointly with the Society for Music Theory.

CSU clarinet professor making music with an extra measure of meaning
In mid-October, Ferreira is traveling with his group, Jâca Duo, to Ecuador to perform at the Festival International de Musica, a trip that was postponed due to COVID. While there, he will fulfill a promise to donate funds to a local musical community in need, funds gathered through his guitar and clarinet duo’s philanthropic mission to create “Music with Meaning.”
Pianist and songwriter Jim Brickman performs benefit concert at UCA
Proceeds will go to the Youth Programs in Arts and Education fund at CSU, which supports programs that provide youth in underserved areas of Northern Colorado opportunities to explore creativity through music, art and theater.
Dr. Jess Rushing is joining CSU Music Therapy this fall
The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance is pleased to announce that Dr. Jess Rushing is joining Colorado State University’s outstanding music therapy faculty. Dr. Rushing comes to CSU following three years at the University of Louisville as an assistant professor of Music Therapy, and receiving her Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Sciences from the University of Kentucky and a Master of Music Therapy from Florida State University.
Music student to present on women composers at musicology conference
Colorado State University undergraduate music major, Annie Koppes, has been selected to present her paper at this year’s Regional American Musicological Society Conference. The conference will take place virtually, April 9-10, 2021.
Music professor releases album of contemporary clarinet music composed and performed by colleagues
Colorado State University clarinet professor, Wesley Ferreira, has released an album featuring selections of clarinet music by composer James M. David; Dr. David is the composition professor for the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance.
